InsurTech weekly - Is M&A the only way for insurers to keep growing ?

From WEF’s global risk outlook to the surge in AI-driven mobile spending and $200B+ invested in AI startups, this essay explores the major forces reshaping tech and innovation.

1/ Risks to get ready to tackle, according to the WEF

The first article is a report the World Economic Forum published every year, ranking risks the world might face in the near future. As usual it ranks risks based on two different time frames: short term (in the next 2 years) ; medium term (in the next 10 years). And ranking are indeed different from each other ! While the short term ranking is very diverse in terms of type of risks expected, the long term ranking focuses a lot on climate-related threats.

2/ Where did customers spend money on mobile app last year?

The seconde article, published on TechCrunch, details where customers spent their money on mobile last year. For the first time ever, they spent more on non-gaming apps, at a global level. This is driven by AI-first services which attracted a lot of attention and money too !

3/ The state of AI investment worldwide

The third article is a report CBinsights published recently on the investment dynamic in AI-first startups. Based on deals announced last year and over $200B invested in that space only, CBinsights lists trends structuring that ecosystem - beyond AI Agents - and details those which matter the most. In addition, it highlights the dynamic in M&A and challenges both startups and tech giants face in what seems to be a paradigm shift !
