InsurTech weekly - Tiny feature, massive impact on the value chain & market

This essay explores whether insurers might eventually disrupt reinsurers through M&A and new business lines, Revolut’s use of geolocation to fight financial fraud, and how autonomous cars could reshape urban economies. A look at the shifting dynamics redefining insurance, finance, and mobility.

1/ Will insurers disrupt reinsurers?

The first article is an essay I published on the growing dynamic of insurers getting closer to reinsurers either through M&A deals or by initiating their own lines of business ! While the market has been focused on how the "disruption" might occur around the distribution part of the value chain, and wile new risks are surging, I'm wondering if the value chain might be disrupted in its upper part: insurers and reinsurers will merge?

2/ Geolocation against financial fraud

The second article is an essay Patrice Bernard put together on Revolut's recent announcement to fight financial fraud. The NeoBank has recently announced initiatives to fight scams with training and best practices shared with its users. And it unveiled a new feature leveraging geolocation to disable money wires outside of specific - and allowed - addresses.

3/ Autonomous cars will transform urban economies

The third article, published in The Economist, explores the dynamic surrounding self-driving cars. It details market shares they are increasingly winning, several players getting closer to 10% of the market in several cities. And beyond, it explores the impact autonomous cars might have on how cities are organized and economies work there !
