InsurTech weekly - Where does the value stand within an ecosystem?

Strava’s lawsuit against Garmin raises key questions about data ownership and value in the fitness ecosystem. As one provides data and the other builds social engagement, the case echoes challenges familiar to insurers navigating data-driven innovation.

1/ The data challenge in fitness

The first article is a post I wrote after Strava sued Garming for patent infringement. Assuming one is the data provider and the other one is the social app, I'm wondering what this upcoming trial means in terms of data: where does the value stand? What if each of these players actually needs each other to be relevant? As data is a regular topic in our insurance industry, I think it's worth keeping an eye on how this lawsuit will go in the fitness & sport space.

2/ 10 years of InsurTech (in the US)

The second article is a post Adrian Jones published recently as ITC Vegas is turning 10. He leveraged that event to summarize ten years of insurance innovations, with a strong focus on the US market. If InsurTech has evolved since day one, it's interesting to note there are several trends which scaled and still mater !

3/ The growing AI-powered cyber threat

The third article, published in The Economist, details how AI is unlocking new cyber threats. It shares several examples of AI-based malwares and wonders if artificial intelligence will make the threat higher or the security stronger? Ultimately, the article shares figures on how much these cyber risk/security environment costs.
