No surprise ‘distribution’ is over half of deals announced (as usual since InsurTech inception).
Great to see more startups addressing the ‘product’ part of the value chain. This is a mix of players addressing new risks (cyber insurance, weather parametric insurance, etc) and startups addressing commoditized lines with new tech (e.g. telematics applied to car insurance).
But the more the ecosystem is maturing, the more granular startups are getting around it: from B2C initiatives, to tools for brokers, and now ‘Embedded Insurance’ solutions opening a new insurance distribution channel through platforms / eCommerces / marketplaces).
